Lil’ Bit o’ Funk Mix

The latest mix was inspired by the new song “Derezzed” from Tron: Legacy trailer in the previous post. I tried to incorporate songs that have that hard robotic style that Daft Punk is known for as well as that groovy french disco feel that’s all the rage over in Paris. It starts off gently but don’t worry, it builds some momentum by the end. So here it is, the usual: sub-par mixing with songs that rock. Enjoy!

Track Listing:
Bit Funk – Love Scientific
N.A.S.A. feat. Kanye West, Santogold, Lykke Li – Gifted (The Aston Shuffle Remix)
Super Mal – Bigger Than Big (Bag Raiders Remix)
The Black Ghosts – Any Way You Choose To Give It (Boy 8-Bit Mix)
Ace of Bass – All That She Wants (The Disco Villains Remix)
Phoenix – Fences (Neo-Tokyo Remix)
Daft Punk – Derezzed (NTEIBINT Remix)

Daft Punk ‘Tron: Legacy’ Trailer

More and more sneak peaks of the new Tron movie are filtering through the inter-webs. The latest features a track from Daft Punk, the exalted Parisian duo made godly after their Alive Tour in 2007 when they packed amphitheaters and enamored crowds with their funky robotic beats. Their new work, “Derezzed” featured on the video is serious, further away from their moxie synth-pop stylings on Discovery. It certainly seems to fit the movie though and offers a good taste of what is to come. It promises to be exciting to see if it lives up to the geek-hype or if people just go to dance in the theaters.

Rustie ‘bursts’ on to Warp Records with Latest EP

Since his first release on Stuff Records with Jagz The Smack, digital artist Rustie has been taking listeners into a whole new dimension on the digital frontier. His long awaited release Sunburst, has gotten rave reviews as the latest signee to Warp Records; describing the release as, “Taking the rarely-linked sonics of hyper-digital video game music and bombastic, audacious prog-rock Rustie folds them into his melted plastic confection of crunk, classic electro and techno.”

Certainly an innovator on his own, similarities can be made to some of his contemporaries in this genre of music including L.A.’s Flying Lotus and Glasgow’s Hudson Mohawke. The EP begins with the dream-like intro of “Neko” which is quickly dashed away by an ostentatious blast of warps and bass. “Chew” brings back memories of Rustie’s Bad Science EP with that tell-tale dragging rhythm splashed over with an amalgamation of varied synths. There is some noticeable funk influence on “Beast Nite” as well as some 8-bit and computer game nuances.

Rustie has released this “Minimix” for fans to get a taste of the new album:

Here’s a pretty cool fan video that demonstrates the typical way to rock out to Rustie’s music featuring “Hyperthrust” from the EP:

OCT 19 MIX

Howdy y’all! Couldn’t snag a guest spot on my radio show this week so I had to make it myself. So, if you’ve been listening for a while, you will notice it is true to typical EST style: some great eclectic electronica with terrible transitions. I must say that I do like the transition on the last songs though. Enjoy!

Tobacco – Backwoods Altar
Oriol – Joy FM
